Katie somewhere in the Andes…

Katie’s story

Katie is the the founder of Sacred Retreats Peru, a Certified Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, Weston A. Price Foundation chapter leader, Spanish speaker, certified Sivananda yoga teacher, dancer, amateur harmonium player, Perú enthusiast, travel aficionado, and lover of all things real food. She is so excited and grateful to be able to share the magic of Peru with others. It is an amazing place with so much to offer!

When I reflect back on the past and when I feel the present moment, my heart fills with an immense gratitude. Every breath, every thought, every feeling has been perfect. Perú is my spiritual home; it´s the spiritual home of many special beings, and I feel honored to work and serve here.

A Louisiana native and a born mover and dancer, I studied classical ballet in New Orleans, Washington DC and London as a young adult. After changing my heart and leaving ballet behind, I took a gap year in Spain to study the Spanish language before attending College of Charleston in South Carolina majoring in both accounting and Spanish.

Shortly after graduation from college, I spent 3 weeks in Peru on a backpacking trip by myself. I fell in love with the country. With a little help from divine intervention, less than 2 months later I was back in Peru, but this time to stay long-term. I had gotten a job as Program Director for an orphanage in Lurín, the southernmost district of Lima. Upon finishing my work at the orphanage, I moved to Iquitos, a jungle city in the Amazon, to work at a plant medicine center aimed at mind, body, and spirit healing and transformation.

In January 2013 I completed a yoga teacher training in Spanish with Sivananda Yoga in Garopaba, Brazil. The satsang was incredible; I made dear friends from all over South America. My journey so far has been amazing. I am looking forward to many more adventures to come, in Perú and beyond.
